This Is 33

As I was putting this birthday post together, I kept thinking about how quickly time has gone by. There are times when I stop myself and think, “woah, I’m in my 30’s!” because honestly, it feels like I was just 21 a second ago. When I was a kid, I remember my parents always talking about how quickly time moves and I thought that was ridiculous because time moved so much slower for me. Now that I’m 33, I really understand what they were saying. But you know what? Not one part of me wants to be 21 again. I really love the age I am and I feel like with each year, my life gets better and fuller.

In the spirit of turning 33, I thought I would take the time to share 33 things that you may not know about me. In general, I tend to keep things more private because as an introvert, my first instinct is never to share but to listen. SO HERE GOES!

1.) I am an introvert. This always surprises people when I say it, but it’s 100% true. In fact, it leads me to #2…

2.) … It has been hard for me to make close friendships as an adult. I tend to be a homebody and my close friends know they basically have to reach out to make plans to hang out because I often won’t. It’s weird. I love hanging out with people but I also love being alone. It takes me awhile to fully be myself around people but once I trust you, YOU ARE IN MY INNER CIRCLE AND I WILL NEVER LET YOU GO.

3.) I hate calling people on the phone. I’ve always been like this. I would get so nervous calling anyone (boys, friends, restaurants, etc.). I don’t even know why! I’m getting better about this but there is still a weird anxiety there.

4.) Speaking of anxiety, I AM ANXIETY. I used to think that I was just shy but over the years, I have discovered that I have anxiety. I am always thinking 10 steps ahead and planning for that “what ifs” of life, which means that my mind is always moving a mile a minute. It is exhausting. Sometimes it prevents me from what I want to do but I am really good at overcoming my anxiety when I need to. Jonny has helped me slow down quite a bit over the course of our relationship by pointing out holes in my worries to help normalize them.

5.) I am a pleaser. All I want is to please people and be what they want me to be. This has been something I have struggled with for a long time. Even when it comes to picking out where to eat, I often choose what I think the other person wants because I want them to be happy. Working on this because I need to learn that it’s okay to voice what I want, too!

6.) I am Jewish. My family is 100% Jewish. I used to struggle with this as a kid because I didn’t want to be different from my friends. Working as a camp counselor at a Jewish camp for eight years helped me not only face my heritage but embrace it.

7.) I am a fourth generation born San Franciscan. My grandma still lives in SF today (hi Bumma!) and she has taught me a lot about our beloved city over the years.

8.) I have never tried marijuana. NEVER. I never really had the urge to.

9.) I am not a big drinker. I don’t love the way it makes me feel. I prefer water or non-alcoholic beverages. If I am going to drink, I love refreshing drinks like champagne or moscow mules.

10.) I chug water all day every day. I drink 224 ounces of water a day because I feel my best when I am hydrated.

11.) I am an elementary school counselor. I get to talk about how feelings all day every day.

12.) When Jonny and I got married, he took my last name.

13.) If I don’t exercise 5 times a week, I feel guilty. Like extreme guilt.

14.) I start sweating when I go into a designer boutique. This is 100% true. I feel like a little kid who isn’t cool enough to be there and I’m paranoid my credit card is going to be declined when I purchase something.

15.) I have one small eye. I just noticed this like two years ago and now I can’t unsee it.

16.) I can binge watch TV shows like a champ. My current favorite shows that I have binged in the past couple of months are PEN15 (Hulu), Russian Doll (Netflix), Crashing (HBO), True Detective (HBO), and others that I am blanking on.

17.) I live down the street from my parents. How cool is that?! This has been my dream for a looooong time and the fact that it’s finally come true is beyond incredible.

18.) My personal style is all over the place. One day, I love an edgier look, the next day, I love a super feminine look. When I first started my blog, I used to think that I needed to pick one “style” but now I just rock whatever I feel like because that’s ME.

19.) I majorly struggle with jealousy and comparing myself to others. Blogging has 100% made both of these undesirable qualities worse. I am trying to get better about this because it does nothing but harm.

20.) I am an open book. Ask me any question and I will answer.

21.) I prefer to listen to old mix CD’s I made back in high school and college than any music streaming device #oldschool

22.) I can only watch a scary movie if I know Jonny is going to be sleeping next me that night. If he is away, I will only watch happy movies and TV shows.

23.) I don’t drink coffee. In grad school, I took a substance abuse class that showed me that I was super sensitive to coffee caffeine so I quit cold turkey and never looked back. Matcha is the only caffeinated drink I consume now (and mostly only on weekends) because it doesn’t “jolt” your system like coffee does.

24.) I don’t think I’m a pet person. I love cats (I grew up with kitties) and dogs are cute but I am not sure if I would ever want a pet in my own house. If I were going to get a pet, it would be a cat because dogs are way too high maintenance.

25.) I am a very touchy person. I like to hug, snuggle, kiss people until they are sick of me.

26.) I am always early. I will literally get somewhere 30 minutes early to avoid being late.

27.) I am on a very strict shopping budget. I tend to overspend quite a bit so Jonny has me on a tight spending leash. I didn’t even have a credit card until five years ago.

28.) I don’t like to cook but make myself cook so that Jonny and I can eat healthy meals during the week. I much prefer takeout.

29.) I played soccer for 13 years. 13 YEARS!

30.) I approach most things in my life heart first. Sometimes, this can hurt me but most of the time, I like leading with love and kindness.

31.) I am a creature of habit. I live for routines. If my routine is broken (hello, DAYLIGHT SAVINGS) I feel completely off until I readjust.

32.) The first designer bag I ever bought was a Chanel mini flap bag about 6 years ago. It was preloved and I still love her so much.

33.) I have never met another Tamryn, which makes my name as unique as I am!

Thank you for reading through and for all of your support over the years! Hope you learned something new about me!

OMGahhhh! I never thought I’d meet someone else who never liked calling people, shops, restaurants! I would always, always, always make my sister or parents call if we were gonna get take out or pizza or had to call for other things. I wanna say I finally got up the courage to call for my first pizza when I was in my mid 20s! I always order online so I don’t have to talk to people 🤣🤣🤣 and I still ask my mom to call and make my appointments for me or to cancel or to ask questions.

I didn’t know you were a school counselor- that’s so awesome!

I live with my mom now (we’re best friends) and I can’t imagine not living near her, so it’s so awesome to hear you’re down the street from your parents! 💜

I’ve never been a coffee drinker. I don’t know how people do it. The after taste is beyond disgusting! And every time you post about your bobas! I automatically think back to “crazy ex girlfriend” on the CW (on Netflix too!)

    I hope you’re having a wonderful day!!!
