Hey, better late than never, right? Can I just say that the lip section in the make-up aisles have been my favorite make-up items since, um, FOREVER!? Yes, I’m counting my younger years when I was obsessed with Dr. Pepper and Cherry Lipsmacker (you know you were, too). Okay, now that we have gotten that out of the way, I have only “graduated” to lipstick over the past couple of years. Like many young girls out there, I believe that I was trained to not gravitate towards lipstick, especially bold lipstick colors. I was under the impression that I was supposed to wear lipgloss (the glossier the better, right?). I had no idea what I was missing out on (lipstick!!!) and continued to grow more annoyed with the stickiness and constant reapplication of lipgloss. Finally, I became fed up with my hair getting stuck to my lips and I headed to my local Sephora where I discovered NARS’ lipstick line and fell in love. I loved the bold colors, the matte non-sticky feeling, and that every application lasted much longer than lipgloss. As I stood in line to buy three NARS lipsticks (“Schiap,” “Roman Holiday,” and “Dolce Vita”) I knew that I had already become a lipstick convert. However, this new lippie world came with a bunch of new things that I had to get used to (fading, the benefit of a great lip primer, flaking, lipstick on the teeth, etc.). Through many trials and tribulations, I would like to share a list of my favoritist (I know that’s not a word, but it just seems to work here) lipsticks! (From left to right) 1.) MAC “Prep And Prime” Lip Primer: This is by far the best lip primer that I have used. When I first started getting into the whole lipstick thing, I didn’t even know that lip primers were out there. Let me tell you, they are pure genius. Not only do they help moisturize your lips, but they help your lipstick stay put so there is no dreaded “slip and slide” all over your mouth. I always apply his lip primer before I used a matte lipstick. It really does help the color last. I apply about 3-5 minutes before I put on my lipstick so that it can take a moment to set and dry. I know when it’s done setting because it starts to feel sticky on your lips. However, once the lipstick is on, the stickiness is only helping to keep the lipstick in place and you can’t feel it on your lips. Like I said, genius! 2.) MAC “Heroine” Matte Lipstick: This is the newest member of my lipstick family. I have heard rumors of this purple-pink lipstick for the past year but it has always been sold out. Since it was part of a “limited edition” line, I thought that I wouldn’t be able to try it. However, MAC heard the pleas of “Heroine’s” loyal users and decided to make it part of their permanent lipstick collection. I ordered mine from Nordstroms and it is now available in the stores as well. This lipstick is AWESOME! Not only is it very different from all of the other colors that I’ve tried, but it is SO long lasting, especially when paired with that lip primer I was just gushing about. Plus, when it does begin to fade, it actually fades into a beautiful deep pink. I thought that I would never try a purple lipstick but it actually does brighten up my complexion and looks just as good and daring as a bold red lip. 3.) Yves Saint Laurent Glossy Stain #17: Welcome to my YSL Glossy Stain obsession. Yes, this lipstick/lipgloss is expensive ($34 a piece), but oh my gosh, they are fantastic. When I’m in a hurry or know that I have a long day ahead of me, these are lip colors that I reach for in my bag. I usually only apply it once in the morning and I am set for the entire day. This is not an exaggeration. They even stay glossy! Remember that stick lipgloss feeling that I hated? These don’t have that at all. They are soft to the touch and the colors and bold! This light pink color is very pretty and a great every day neutral. I like that it is subtle but it does pack a punch. The pink is fun to wear and this color is my go-to when I wear a smokey eye. 4.) MAC “Ruby Woo” Matte Lipstick: Oh, Ruby Woo. I love you! This is my perfect red and the lipstick I reach for when I want to make a statement. The color is bright but bold and is very long wearing. To prolong the wear, I usually layer MAC’s “Cherry” (not pictured) lip pencil underneath to really make my lips pop. This formula is very matte and can get a tad flakey. I’ve never really had much of a problem with it and find that I’ve been reaching for it a lot this winter. 5.) Yves Saint Laurent Glossy Stain #1: I love love love this deep bordeaux lip color. I’ve already gushed about how amazing this product is, but I love that I can put on such a dark color and not have to worry about it for the rest of the day. This is definitely a winter color and find that I reach for it when I want to add a little edge to my look. It’s probably not for everybody, but I love taking risks on new lip products and found that this one was a win for me. 6.) Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture #19: This was my first YSL lipstick and the fuchsia color is beyond amazing. Also, I usually wear this lip color without a primer because it is so long-lasting and moisturizing. Plus, it tends to fade pretty evenly over the course of the day so there is no dreaded “lip liner” look. YSL has definitely perfected their use of bold colors throughout their make-up lines and this line of lipsticks is definitely worth looking into. 7.) Yves Saint Laurent Glossy Stain #11: When I don’t have time to apply Ruby Woo, I reach for this glossy reddish-pink color. The application is very fast (think swiping on some lipgloss) so I can put it on in 10 seconds when I’m rushing out the door in the morning. The color is very unique and I feel like it brightens up my entire face when I wear it. 8.) MAC “Candy Yum Yum” Matte Lipstick: Don’t you just love MAC’s lipstick names? This is definitely a hot pink that I use more during the spring and summer time. Like the other matte lipsticks that I reviewed here, it lasts for quite some time and I find that I don’t have to reapply too often. This is such a fun color that I used to liven up outfits and to add a little pop of color to my look.

Jackets | Zara Jacket /H&M Jacket/ Zara Jacket / Zara Jacket Tops | Forever 21 Sweater/ J Crew Cardigan / Zara Sheer Blouse / Zara Blouse Bottoms | Topshop Skirt / Wayf Track Pants / Zara Pants / Zara Jeans Shopping on a budget can be very difficult and frustrating, especially if you have expensive taste and want everything (yes, I am referring to myself). Ever since I became a graduate student (going on 2.5 years), I have been forced to shop on a tighter budget. While there are items that I have splurged on here and there, I have found that I will always try to get the best value for my money on all my purchases (i.e. wait for it to go on sale, get a price adjustment if the price drops even more, use my student discount, and look for it on eBay for a lower price). Most of the time, I usually wait for the things that I want to go on sale, because 99% of the time, everything goes on sale at one point or another. For today’s post, I put together four outfits (minus the shoes) that work well for us babes on a budget. All items are under $100 (most top out around $50) so you can give your wallet a much needed break from the holiday season. Some of my favorite budget friendly retails stores are H&M, J Crew’s sale section, Zara, Topshop, Nordstrom’s Savvy and T.B.D. sections, and Piperlime’s “Chic Steals” section. Happy shopping and, as always, thanks for stopping by!
