Holy Matcha is a gift from the Instagram Gods. No seriously, it is. The entire shop is TO DIE FOR and it has been on my MUST VISIT list for a very very long time. So, when Jonny and I decided to take our anniversary trip to sunny San Diego, I was thrilled to 1.) celebrate with my love and 2.) GO TO HOLY MATCHA and maybe not necessarily in that order (#matchaobsessed). As you all know, I have an HEALTHY obsession with matcha. I do not drink coffee because I am sensitive to the caffeine levels in everyone's favorite morning drug and I actually quit drinking coffee about five years ago when I learned about this sensitivity and haven't really looked back. When I drink coffee, I don't melt into a puddle a la Wicked Witch from the West style but I do feel gross. I found that if I had a cup of coffee in the AM and ANYTHING caffeinated in the PM (this could even be dark chocolate) I would crash so hard. Anyway, long story short, I don't drink caffeinated coffee but will have decaffeinated coffee every now and then because I love the taste.
If you've been following me for awhile, you know that I am a huge fan of Ulla Johnson. Her designs are not only innovative and very unique, but the quality of her pieces are beyond dreamy. I just can't get enough! For me, once I find a designer I love, I become fiercely loyal and usually want to fill my entire closet with their pieces. This doesn't happen very often so when it does, I go all in. I'm happy to say that my Ulla Johnson wardrobe has been slowly growing over time and while my wallet is less than thrilled, every time I look at my special pieces I can't help my smile. This dress is no exception. I remember seeing it for the first time through one of Ulla Johnson's especially dreamy presentations and it was love at first sight.
You guys, I was so busy celebrating my wedding anniversary that I forgot to tell you that it's also my Boba Guys Boba-versary! This might seem a little silly to some, but Boba Guys has become more than just a tea shop to me. I've actually gotten to know the owners (hi, Andrew and Bin!) and I've even become friends with some of their incredible team (I know you're reading this, Monica! Love ya girl!) over the past year. Learning more about this incredible company has made me feel even more connected to them. Their commitment to not only bringing the best boba tea to the Bay Area and their intense love of bringing all different types of communities together is inspiring. I feel like this just does not happen often in businesses so it's refreshing to see passionate people doing business RIGHT.
Last weekend, Jonny and I decided to head to San Diego to take advantage of the Labor Day holiday weekend and celebrate our one year wedding anniversary a little early! On a fun side note, Jonny actually went to UCSD so it was really fun for him to be back on his old stomping grounds years later. One quick plane ride and a rented car later, Jonny and I started our anniversary vacation. We had so much fun exploring all of the fun little spots that SD is famous for (more on this coming later!) and we were very excited to spend out last day/night with Hotel Z, a Stay Pineapple hotel, which is located downtown in the historic Gaslamp District. When we drove up to the front of Hotel Z, we were immediately blown away by how FUN our hotel looked. Standing out in bright marigolds and turquoise, Hotel Z literally jumps out at you and draws you in with it's unique exterior. Jonny and I drove our rental car right up to the valet, which was an amazing service to use. Instead of having to look around frantically for parking downtown, you hand your keys to the valet and they take care of it for you. When you want you car back for another outing, all you have to do is text them and they will bring your car to the front of the hotel within 10 minutes. Having this service was life changing because we didn't have to worry about parking our car! Someone else did it for us. Oh yeah, WE FANCY.
It's been a year in the making but I am finally sharing our wedding photos with all of you, my lovely readers. Sharing these photos with you on our one year anniversary feels very special. We have spent the last year embracing our newlywed life and just enjoying this amazing time in our lives together. If you didn't already know, Jonny and I have been together for almost ten years so our wedding felt like this amazing culmination of so much love and time spent together as we have grown together side by side over the years. Leading up to our wedding, everyone told us how stressed out we would be throughout the wedding planning process and how we would basically want to kill each other by the time the wedding rolled around. We worked really really hard to prepare everything for the wedding and my favorite part was that we did everything together. Instead of given me full wedding planning responsibility, Jonny wanted a say in every detail. With some stuff, this annoyed me (clearly I can pick better linens, SHEESH) but looking back on it, his involvement really showed how invested he was. Throughout our relationship, Jonny and I have been very used to hearing negative “pieces of advice” over the years (“wedding planning will kill the romance,” “you guys aren’t married yet?” “how LONG have you been together?” “just wait until the magic is gone,” etc.) and we have always laughed them off.
