Like many teenagers growing up in the early 2000s, overalls were where it was at. They were loose, comfy, and hid any bloating that may have been caused by consuming too much In ‘N Out. But overalls did not only make an appearance in my teens. No, no. They were quite the staple when I was a little kid as well. I’m pretty sure that everyone had a pair of Osh Kosh overalls back in the day and it didn’t stop there. My most memorable overalls memory was when I was given a pair of hot pink velvet (yes, velvet) overalls from Old Navy. I loved those overalls so much! They were so different and fun at the time. When I think about them now, however, I can’t help but cringe a bit.

Now let me bring you to present day. Overalls are making a comeback in a huge way. Almost everyone in the blogging world has been seen sporting a pair and I couldn’t help but feel a shift in my original “I’ll never wear overalls again!” mentality. These new overalls are so much chicer than my past pairs! Not only are they not as loose (aka unflattering), they seem to be pulling a more laid-back-but-still-presentable vibe. Not only are full length overalls back, but “shortalls” are also a fun summer alternative that are equally as chic.

I have been scouring the internet for quite some time in search for the perfect pair of overalls or shortalls, whichever called to me first. While shopping, I knew that I didn’t want to spend more than $30 and that they needed to be distressed. I finally found a pair of perfect shortalls at American Eagle. The price was perfect (with a sale promotion they were only $17!) and I loved the faded distressed denim look. I hit the “submit order” button and waited for them to hit my doorstep. Honestly, I was still a little nervous about how they would look and if I would be able to pull them off. Even Jonny cringed when I mentioned my recent purchase, which made me even more nervous!

However, when I slipped into these shortalls, I knew I was hooked. Even Jonny said they “weren’t horrible,” which in Jonny style language means “I like them.” Kids, get out there and find your perfect pair of overalls. Whether they’re short or long, they are SO fun to wear and are quickly becoming my outfit go-to!

The lacy top with the shortfalls is a great counterpoint and very feminine, very chic!
