Jonny and I met seven years ago this month. The way we met was unique at the time and, I’m not gonna lie, it kind of dates me. Jonny “friended” me on MySpace. Yes, you read that right. MySpace. At the time (this was back in 2008), MySpace was already on it’s way out. I barely checked my account at that time, but for some reason, I felt inclined to look at it one day. When I logged on, I found a friend request from Jonny. He even wrote “I hear you like freakishly tall guys.” This unique and clever touch (I had written “I like freakishly tall guys” in my MySpace profile. I know, I was so cool.) really caught my attention for some reason. Of course, like any social media enthusiast, I went through all of his pictures before responding and I was immediately drawn to his kind face and striking blue eyes.
We began e-mailing back and forth and he had a way with words. The fact that he could make me laugh out loud just by reading an e-mail was refreshing. You guys, I already felt like I was falling for him just by reading his e-mails. They were like little love letters that I grew to savor. We finally made plans to meet each other, but only after a few “how do you know I’m not a psycho?” jokes, of course. I was nervous driving up to his house because I just knew that he was special and that this could be…real.
A fair warning, this next part gets a little cheesy. When I first saw Jonny walking toward me, I knew that I had found “the one.” My grandma always told me that she heard bells ringing when she first saw my grandpa and I had a similar experience when we met. We had an amazing first date. We went to see an old movie at a classic movie theater in Palo Alto near Stanford University, we ate slices of pizza, and basically laughed and flirted for the entire evening. It truly was a perfect date.
As they say, the rest is history. We have been together ever since and I can honestly say that I fall more in love with Jonny with each passing year. We share something real and I can’t even tell you how comforting it is to have someone that I can trust 100% by my side. Never have I been able to be my complete self around a boyfriend but Jonny makes it easy for me. One of the things that I love most about our relationship is our ability to be honest with each other. Sure, at times the honesty can hurt and even turn into a fight, but we both know that we will always come back together when it’s over and, in my opinion, that is real love.
This Valentine’s Day, I hope that you are reminded that love can be defined in many different ways. I feel very fortunate to have many sources of love in my life. From my amazing family to my friends to Jonny, my heart feels full at all times. Ever since I started this blog, I now feel so much support and love from all of you, and for that I am very grateful.

This is probably my most favorite of your blogs to date. I have some favorites, but this one rose to the top! It made me cry…knowing me, that’s not surprising, right? I love you and I love you two being together, I know I’m Jonny’s mom, but he’s pretty special and so are you. Happy Valentine’s Day!
