My thoughts around Valentine’s Day often centered around secret admirers. Young Tamryn used to dream about a secret admirer dropping off a handmade card with sweet nothings scribbled on it in my locker at school. There was something so exciting about the thought of a person who cared for me so deeply but didn’t want their identity to be revealed. Even though I’m a pretty grounded and realistic person, I always woke up on Valentine’s Day morning with a little extra pep in my step in hopes that something extra romantic would happen to me that day.

Fast forwarding to adult Tamryn, Valentine’s Day is still such a fun holiday filled with a little extra excitement. However, my fantasy of a secret admirer professing their undying love to me disappeared when I first met Jonny. We actually met right before Valentine’s Day (it was love at first sight. Cue the “awwwws!”) and to be honest, I didn’t think about what elaborate gifts he might give me or the over the top dinner that he would take me to. All I thought about was how lucky I was to have finally found someone that filled my heart with so much love that I didn’t need anything else. When I think about romance, I think about the bond that we have created over the past nine years. When I think about love, I think about the way that Jonny looked at me when he first saw me in my wedding dress. When I think about Valentine’s Day, I think about how lucky we are to have each other through everything we’ve gone through and that’s all I need.

Happy Valentine’s Day, everyone!
