Date Night.

The boy and I ventured just north of San Francisco to beautiful Marin County for a small weekend getaway. As much as we love the city, a change of scenery is always refreshing and exciting. We have been getting to know Marin for the past couple of years and to say that we love the slower pace and being surrounded by nature (Hello, Mount Tam!) are both understatements. If you are ever in San Francisco, do yourself a favor and tour Marin. You will absolutely fall in love.

One of our favorite date night restaurants is a small Italian restaurant in Fairfax, which is located off the beaten track of the popular Marin cities. Nestled within the redwood trees, Fairfax is an adorable little town that makes you feel like you have successfully escaped the fast-paced nature of the city. You feel instantly relaxed by the live music playing from the small local bars and every person that passes you smiles and waves. Okay. Back to the food.

Sorella Caffe is located off of the one main road in Fairfax. The restaurant itself looks more like a log cabin than a restaurant and the strings of white Christmas lights add to the overall ambiance. When you walk in, you are instantly greeted by the friendly staff who actually remember their regular customers. We usually try to arrive within an hour after they open (5:00 pm) because the tables really begin to fill up after 6:00 pm. Once you are seated, your table is immediately given fresh sliced bread, butter, and water. Now this is one of the best and most unique parts of dining at Sorella Caffe. They bring over a wheel (!!!) of fresh parmesan cheese and carve you off a few pieces. Heavenly.

We order our food (a Caesar salad to split, spaghetti and meatballs for me, and fettuccine prawns for him) and it all comes out very fast and the entrees are piping hot, just how I like it. The food is absolutely amazing. Fresh pasta, unique sauces, and such amazing service that you never have to wonder if the waiter sees your empty water glass. To top it off, the meal ends with two small bowls of treats, one full of gummi bears and one with animal crackers.

If you ever have the chance, visit Sorella Caffe in Fairfax. You will not be disappointed.
