My Skincare Routine.

Clarisonic Mia /ROC Eye Cream / Clearasil Rapid Action Treatment Cream / Clean and Clear Continuous Face Wash / Mario Badescu Drying Lotion / Josie Maran Argan Oil /ROC Day/Night Retinol Cream / Josie Maran Daily Moisturizer With Sunscreen / Alpha Hydrox Intensive Serum The words “skincare regime” never crossed my mind until I began my uphill struggle with acne at fourteen years old. I quickly learned that my skin wasn’t just the “occasional pimple” type. It was the “I will break out in painful bumps all over your chin if you don’t take good care of me” type. Additionally,  I learned that I had combination skin (both oily and dry), which is even harder to care for when you also have acne. I started off using Neutrogena Oil Free Acne Wash, you know, that one from all those T.V. commercials! I quickly found that product did not work for me, which began a long and painful struggle to find facial products that would keep my acne in check and not irritate my skin. Here is a list of the products that I currently use (and love!): 1.) Clarisonic Mia: Stop what you’re doing and go and buy yourself a Clarisonic Mia. Honestly, this tool has done wonders for my skin. When I first started using this tool a year and a half ago, I was so addicted to how clean it made my face feel that I started to use it in the mornings and at night. After awhile, I noticed that my skin was more irritated than usual, so I pulled back and now only use it at night. I find that it is more beneficial to use the Clarisonic at night because it really does help wash away all of the make-up and creams that I applied in the morning. The deep clean that I get from this tool cannot be reached when I wash my face with my hands. I know that it is pricey, but it is so worth it. Plus, my Clarisonic stopped working about a year after I bought it and I was able to bring it back to Sephora and they gave me a new one for free! 2.) ROC Eye Cream: I started using ROC eye cream about a year ago when I noticed that the skin around my eyes was starting to show more fine lines than I wanted to see. I had tried many different eye creams, but none that included retinol, a powerful anti-ager. This product is no joke. When I first applied it, it burned a tad (the burning means it’s working, right?!) but I noticed results within one week. I apply this cream in the morning and at night. 3.) Clearasil Rapid Action Treatment Cream: Since my skin is acne prone, I need to apply one thin layer of this cream to my chin every morning and night. I have used so many other expensive acne brands (I’m talking about you, Proactiv), and none ever continued to do their job (keep my chin acne free) except for this one! The best part? It’s under $5 and you can buy it at the drugstore. 4.) Clean and Clear Continuous Face Wash: I absolutely love this face wash. Through my own internet research, I learned that I needed a face wash that contained benzoyl peroxide, a powerful ingredient that helps keep pimples away. To my surprise, many acne face washes do not contain benzoyl peroxide so I really had to do my research and find one that was inexpensive and readily available. I eventually found this Clean and Clear face wash (hello, 1990s) and have been hooked ever since. My only gripe is that I wish that the filled the container with more face wash because I am constantly having to restock. 5.) Mario Badescu Drying Lotion: Best. Pimple. Cream. Ever. I had always seen this brand advertised in the back of the magazines that I read. One day, I finally decided to give it a shot and see how it would work on my skin. I had pretty low expectations when I first started using it, but after applying it to a mountain of a pimple and leaving it overnight, I realized that this stuff really does work. My pimple was completely gone! This stuff is pricey, but I think it’s totally worth the money and has saved me from many unwanted pimple pop-ups. 6.) Josie Maran Argan Oil: I had heard a great deal about Argan oil a while back, but didn’t even DREAM of putting oil on my sensitive skin. However, the Argan oil craze did not seem like a fleeting trend, so I eventually caved and tried it out. I used this product at night as my “moisturizer” and boy does it make my skin glow! It also makes my skin soft to the touch. Ever since I started using this product, I no longer see dry patches of skin on my face. My skin is supple and, best of all, it doesn’t make me break out! 7.) ROC Day/Night Retinol Cream: This product is a lot like the ROC eye cream that I mentioned, but it comes in two different tubes, one for day time use and one for night time use. I really love that the day time product has sunscreen in it and I have recently started applying it to my face and my neck. The night cream is a tad more powerful and you can actually feel it working immediately after application. Hey, you can never start too early with the wrinkle prevention!. 8.) Josie Maran Daily Moisturizer with Sunscreen: Josie Maran’s face products are unbeatable. This sunscreen is amazing and really does moisturize my skin. This product not only smells amazing, but helps to soothe my skin with Argan oil. I have found that other sunscreen brands, like Neutrogena, made my skin feel hot and itchy. I never had that experience with this sunscreen and, because of that, this is the only face sunscreen that I will ever use. 9.) Alpha Hydrox Intense Serum: Do you guys think I’m obsessed with wrinkle prevention? If so, you’re not far off. Ever since my early 20s, I really started to be mindful of what types of products I put on my skin, specifically what products I could use to help keep my skin youthful for as long as possible. I stumbled across this product when I was researching how to control my adult acne after a pretty bad flare up. This product is not only used for wrinkle treatment/prevention, but it is also GREAT for acne prone skin. There is something about the Alpha Hydrox that keeps pimple prone skin in check. I have had amazing results ever since I started using this product and have been recommending it to everyone. Not only is my skin pimple free, but it is smooth and youthful looking. As far as I’m concerned, that’s a win in my book!

Winter Wardrobe Workhorses.

J Crew Cable Knit Sweater / J Crew Keeper Chambray Shirt / J Crew Cocoon Coat / J.Crew Pixie Pants / J.Crew Knee-High Socks / Stuart Weitzman 5050 Boots / Knitted Headband / J Crew Scarf / Leather Gloves Everyone has their own personal “workhorses” (clothing that gets used over and over and over and over) in their wardrobes. For this post, I have compiled my favorite Winter Wardrobe Workhorses. 1.) J Crew Cable Knit Sweater: I have been coveting this piece ever since I saw it pop up on J Crew’s website. Everything about this sweater is perfect. The color, the adorable cable knit pattern, and shape all make this sweater a future wardrobe workhorse for me. I could see myself wearing this sweater over pants, with skirts, dressing it up, dressing it down, layering it over shirts, etc. I would buy it to wear it a little on the larger side so I could fit a lot of layers underneath it. I’m pretty sure that I am getting this for Christmas so I am counting down the days until I can call it my own! 2.) J Crew Keeper Chambray Shirt: At this point, I have had to replace this shirt twice from overwear. This says nothing about the quality of the shirt. I had just worn the first one so many times that it was starting to look dingy. This is the perfect chambray shirt. The color is amazing (I tend to prefer lighter chambray tops) and the length and fit are to die for. This shirt sometimes goes on sale, but it’s rare. I periodically check out the sale section just to see if it’s listed. If it is, I usually buy one for myself, or I alert the women in my life that also love it. 3.) J Crew Cocoon Coat: Last year, I bought this coat in black, but I also wanted this gorgeous tan color as well. Unfortunately, it had sold out. Luckily, J Crew brought it back this winter and I am patiently waiting for it go on promotion so I can add it to my collection of J Crew coats. This coat is the warmest wool coat that I own. Also, the shape of it is very chic and unique. Some women don’t like the cocoon shape, but I like that it makes a statement and doesn’t look like every other black pea coat out there. 4.) J Crew Pixie Pants: I discovered these pants two years ago and they are by FAR my most loved winter wardrobe workhorse! Before these pants, I used to (unsuccessfully) stuff my skinny jeans into the tops of boots. We all know where I’m going with this. The dreaded baggy bulge of the jeans/pants material that sits at the top of your boots. I always knew this was unflattering but thought that I would just have to deal with it. Alas, I discovered J Crew’s Pixie Pants and my life has been changed ever since. These pants are INCREDIBLE. They are not pants, but they are not tights. They are some amazing tasteful mixture of the two. Not only do they feel like you’re wearing sweatpants, but they tastefully hug your body in all of the right places without looking too tight. Also, they’re not see through! It’s a miracle! Plus, they tuck into boots as if they were made to do just that. 5.) J Crew Knee-High Socks: This goes without saying. If you’re going to wear tall boots, you need tall socks. End of story. 6.) Stuart Weitzman 5050 Boots: These boots are on my dream list. They are pricey, but the shape is so cute. I also love that they are just black. For me, clean and simple boots are a must have in the winter because, let’s face it, I will not be wearing heels when it is freezing cold outside. 7.) Knitted Headband: My friend made me my own knitted headband a couple of years ago and I love it, especially now that I have a pixie cut. With the shorter hair, I find that I can’t really wear beanies anymore. They just don’t look right on me. However, the knitted headband is the perfect way for me to keep my head warm and still look stylish. 8.) J Crew Scarf: I always want a cute knitted scarf on hand, especially when those cold winter winds start blowing. I usually tend to buy scarves in neutral colors so that they can match more in my wardrobe. 9.) Leather Gloves: Since my hands are always freezing in the winter, I need chic gloves to help keep them warm. I love the Target ones listed above. I’m a sucker for polka dots. 10.) Of course I had to include my favorite winter/holiday hot drink from Starbucks: Salted Caramel Hot Chocolate!!!!! If you haven’t tried this special drink, you definitely should. My holidays would not be the same without it.
