I am not usually one to wear red. Come to think of it, I think I only have three red items in my closet, one of which is this Marc Jacobs dress. When my love for fashion first started to grow serious, I found myself purchasing cheaper items in larger quantities. Yes, this made me feel like I had a lot of options, but in reality, none of the clothes fit me right or made me feel special. Sadly, many of these cheaper pieces were put into a garbage bag that eventually made its way to the local Goodwill. I started to notice that when I invested my money into pieces that were well-made, I not only kept them around for quite some time but I also found myself reaching for them much more often.

This Marc Jacobs dress was purchased many years ago at a small boutique in San Francisco. I had walked by the storefront many times and always stopped to admire the beautiful red color and the unique shape of the dress. One day, I saw that the boutique was offering a discount on everything in the store. I took that as a sign and walked in, determined to finally try on the dress. When I finally found it on a crowded rack on clothing, there was only one left. In my size. Once I tried it on, I knew that this dress was different. I love the vintage inspired cut of the sweetheart neckline, the fabric that was draped over the sides of the dress to help it appear fuller, and the subtle picnic basket inspired fabric that covered the entire dress. Sold.

I love the idea of this outfit for a fun Valentine’s Day outing outdoors. Since the dress is very easy to move around in, it would be great for a picnic in Golden Gate Park, a bike ride through the Marina, or for brunch on Fillmore St. Plus, the red color of this dress is perfect for celebrating love!
